Bhool Bhulaiya is a labyrinth consisting of hundreds of dark passageways and stairways some of which lead to certain entry and exit points while some lead to a dead end. The main purpose of this labyrinth was to confuse the enemy in case any invasion in the Bara Imambara. Only the king and a handful of his loyal men knew the right way out. It is very easy to get lost in this place so if you are visiting it is advised that you hire a guide to give you the tour of this place.
The Bara Imambara which resided Bhool Bhulaiya is famous for its arched room which is supposed to be the biggest one without pillars.
The Bhool Bhulaiya is a three storied building. The building has a total of 489 doors-less galleries all similar where a person can wander for hours trying to find the right way. That is why this place is so mysterious.
The main structure defines a series of hollows in the corridors which have been built quite strategically. It also contains a mysterious blocked underground passageway which is said to run along a mile and then open up somewhere near the river Gomti.
It is believed that the hidden treasures of the King are still somewhere in the maze. If you want to explore this place without getting lost then hiring a guide would be good for you.
